Credit crunch, what credit crunch?

Record sales for the launch of the new F prefix registrations

October 7th 2008 was always going to be a big day for the personalised number plates industry, with the long awaited release of the new F prefix private number plates.

The F prefix series, with numbers from 1 through to 20 which had previously been held back by the DVLA, were finally here and up for grabs. Investors with their phones at the ready raced to secure themselves one of the new F prefix plates as soon as lines opened at 8am.

The first day of release alone raked in a phenomenal £3.42 million for the DVLA from the new F plate sales, setting a new record for the industry.

This new record had now smashed the previous record from 4 years back, when the E prefix plates were released by over £200,000.00.

Damian Lawson, the marketing manager for DVLA personalised registrations, said that they “Had been completely taken aback by the immense response” and that “Setting the new record especially in todays tough economic climate, clearly demonstrated that consumers were still ready to invest in personalised registrations”.

Property prices may be down but personalised registrations continue to defy the trend.

While house prices may keep on falling and the stock markets continue to yo-yo, the personalised number plates industry has so far observed that more and more people are choosing to invest their money in personalised number plates.

Opting to invest your money in a private number plate is seen by professionals in the motor industry to be, “Better than money in the bank”.

Prices being achieved for personalised registrations at the DVLA auctions seem to show no sign of slowing up either with the sale last month of the registration mark ’6 B’ selling for a staggering £130,000.00.

If you thought that £130,000.00 was big money for a personalised number plate, then think again, one investor has recently parted with over £440,000.00 for his dream plate. To read the story and see the video footage click here.
