128 bit SSL security on our website

What is SSL security?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the security protocol used by a website to protect online communications.

The most common use of SSL is to provide protection for confidential data, such as entering personal details or credit card information into a website.

How you are protected when buying online through www.ftreg.com.

Our 128 bit SSL Certificate provides two primary functions:

  • SSL Encryption allows your data to be transmitted over the computer network in a secure manner.
  • Identity assurance (validation) allows www.ftreg.com to ‘prove’ that we are exactly who we claim to be.

Once a secure transaction is initiated, ie: You begin to enter payment card details on our website, there are four basic steps taken to establish a secure connection:

  • The browser checks the SSL Certificate to make sure that it is valid and that the site you are connecting to is legitimate.
  • Data encryption levels are established based on what the browser and website server can both use to understand each other.
  • The browser and server send each other unique codes to use when encrypting the information that will be sent.
  • The browser and server start talking using the encryption, the web browser shows the encrypting icon, and the web pages and information are processed securely.

What to look for.

In addition to data encryption and identity assurance, our SSL Certificate will also give you important visual clues to show that you are within a secure environment:

  • https:// will be contained within our website address when entering payment details.
  • A clickable icon will be present showing our SSL Certificate information.
  • A closed padlock symbol will appear in your browser window.

The closed padlock symbol.

When you arrive at the secure payment stage of our buy online facility, you will be asked to enter your payment card details. Always check that you can see the following closed padlock in your browser window.

When the closed padlock symbol shows in your browser, it will give you the reassurance that you are in a secure environment and that your payment card details being entered are protected.

NOTE:

The above closed padlock image is what it will look like if you are browsing our site using Internet Explorer 6. Other versions of Internet Explorer such as IE 7 may look slightly different to the above.

If you are browsing www.ftreg.com using an interent browser such as Mozilla Firefox or a Safari browser on an Apple Mac computer, the closed padlock symbol may again look different to the image shown.

The main thing to check is that the closed padlock is present in your browser window. This padlock confirms to yout that the website you are purchasing from is a secure site and that your details are being protected.

Our SSL Certificate details.

Our SSL Certificate is provided by a company called ‘GeoTrust’

Depending on what type of browser you are using, when you are in a secure payment area of www.ftreg.com you should be able to double click the padlock symbol to display our SSL Certificate details. This will confirm to you that we have a valid and up to date secure SSL license.
