The auction raised around £3million for the Government agency, with the top price of £102,200.00 being paid for the personalised registration ‘6 B’.

Who is The Stig?

We have all speculated who The Stig might be, including Formula One figures such as Damon Hill or Lewis Hamilton, Mark Blundell, Mark Webber, Perry McCarthy, well known stunt driver Russ Swift or even Tiff Needell.

Ex-F1 driver Perry McCarthy exposed himself as the original Stig after two seasons on the hit show, and revealed, “There’s a few of them, I think…”.

The Stig’s identity has been a closely guarded secret and only a few BBC Top Gear insiders know the ‘tame racing driver’s’ real identity.

The sensational photograph shown below, was taken in London recently and gives a clear view of his eyes through his crash helmet’s black visor.

This is the very first glimpse of the man behind The Stig’s trademark white crash helmet. The photograph still leaves experts mystified as to his true identity though.

A spokeswoman for the BBC refused to comment on the photographs.
